The Art of Noticing: Learning To Feel To The Energy Of Our Spaces.

Spring is making its way into the desert. Slowly, almost imperceptibly at first—until one morning you step outside and notice the light has changed. The air feels different, lighter. Something invisible is moving underneath everything. It’s not just the blooming palo verdes or the citrus-sweet breeze. It’s energetic. Alive. And if you’re paying attention, you can feel it. This shift lives in the land, yes—but also in us. We begin to crave fresh air, movement, less noise. We want clarity. We start opening windows, shedding clutter, rearranging rooms—making space for something we can’t quite name, but deeply sense. And it’s in these moments of quiet noticing that we begin to understand: our homes and gardens carry energy, too. The truth is, every space has a hum. Every object, every corner, every design choice quietly influences the way we feel. Some rooms offer peace. Others subtly agitate. And often, it’s not about style or square footage—it’s about resonance.

Everything Has a Charge

Our homes are not neutral. They’re alive with memory, movement, and meaning. Each item we bring into a space—whether chosen with intention or inherited by default—carries a story. And that story has energy.

A vase picked up on a meaningful trip might ground you in joy. A piece of art bought under pressure might whisper a kind of quiet dissonance every time you pass it. Even clutter has its own charge. It holds decisions we haven’t made yet. It echoes overwhelm. It asks something of us—even when we try to ignore it. This doesn’t mean every space needs to be minimal or serene. It just means we should notice. Because when we become conscious of the energy in our homes, we begin to shape our lives more deliberately.

Energy Is Flow, Not Just Furniture

As a designer, I don’t just look for what looks good—I listen for what feels right.
Where does the light naturally want to fall?
What kind of energy do you want to carry when you wake up in the morning?
Where can your body and your mind soften at the end of the day?

These questions shape more than layout—they shape the emotional tone of your home. Energy is in how you move through a space. It’s in what your eyes rest on. It’s in the harmony—or dissonance—between the objects around you and the life you’re building. Sometimes that means editing.
Sometimes it means layering. Often, it means removing what feels heavy so you can invite in more breath, more light, more space to become.

So, Consider This: What kind of energy are you bringing into this season? Is your space holding that for you—or quietly resisting it?Are there areas of your home that reflect the person you are becoming? And are there pieces—physical or energetic—that are ready to be let go? Your home doesn’t need to be perfect. It just needs to feel like you. And that feeling can change, just like the seasons do.

Your Energy Audit

Here’s a practice you can return to throughout the year—especially when seasons shift and something inside you stirs.

1. What feels stagnant?
– A corner that collects clutter?
– A piece that no longer reflects who you are?

2. What feels nourishing?
– A view, a texture, a moment that always soothes?
– Something that invites you to slow down or smile?

3. What no longer belongs to your story?
– Are you holding onto things out of guilt or habit?
– What would feel like a kindness to release?

4. How is energy flowing?
– Do you move with ease?
– Are there areas that feel blocked or too busy?

5. What small shift could invite breath?
– Swapping out one thing that feels heavy
– Clearing a surface
– Changing a room’s rhythm with light, scent, or silence

You don’t need to overhaul everything. You just need to listen. This season invites you to tune in. To realign. To shed what no longer fits and surround yourself with what truly reflects the beauty of who you are becoming. Because your home isn’t just where you live. It’s where you’re returning to yourself.
